Amarhys Demo Guide (ENGLISH)

Hello everybody,

You will find in this thread all needed information to enjoy the new Amarhys game demo.

System Requirements :

  • Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • 512 Mo RAM
  • Minimum screen resolution 1024x768, 16M colors
  • 350 Mo free disk space
  • 3D video card required, DirectX 9.0c compatible
  • Sound card
  • Mouse with two buttons (three buttons recommended) and keyboard

Install / Uninstall :

To install the Amarhys game demo :

  • Donwload the exec file on http://www.amarhys.com
  • Execute amarhys_demo_v2.02.exe and follow the instructions on the screen.
  • Once install has completed, double-click the Amarhys icon on Windows desktop to launch the game.

To uninstall the Amarhys game demo :

  • In Windows start menu : Program -> Amarhys, run Uninstall Amarhys
  • OR
  • In Windows control panel : Programs and Functionnalities, select Amarhys then Uninstall

DirectX Drivers:

The game engine requires to have Directx 9.0c installed. If Windows displays a missing DirectX DLL error message, you can download and install it from the Microsoft website (DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer) :

Manual DirectX driver update is required only if you have downloaded the demo before the 24th, November 2011 (version prior to 2.03). The version 2.03 includes automatic directX drivers update during the game installation (you can consult the demo version history at the end of this guide).

Amarhys Guide :

In OPTION menu, in HELP / COMMANDS section, there's a detailed description of the game interface.

MAIN MENU :

  • NEW GAME : to start a new game.
  • LOAD GAME : to load a previous saved game. The current game will be lost if not saved.
  • SAVE GAME : to save the current game. There are 4 available slots to save games.
  • RETURN GAME : to leave the main menu and return to the current game.
  • OPTIONS : to configure some of the game options and to access help and command descriptions.
  • CREDITS : game credits.
  • QUIT : to leave the game.
During the game, press the [ESC] key to enter the main menu.

OPTIONS :

Some of game parameters can be configured to match user preferences :

  • Language : two languages are available, French and English.
  • Sea Waves : to enable or disable small waves on ocean surface.
  • View transitions : to enable or disable smooth transitions when changing from one view to another.
  • Color settings : To configure color brightness, contrast and gamma correction. These settings can also be accessed during the game pressing the [F9] key.
  • Sound Volumes : To configure independently music and sound fx volumes. These settings can also be accessed during the game pressing the [F8] key.
  • Mouse sensitivity : To configure mouse sensitivity for panoramic rotation control. This setting can also be accessed during the game pressing the [F7] key.
In OPTION menu, press the [ESC] key to return to main menu.

HELP / COMMANDS :

In OPTIONS menu, press the [HELP / COMMANDS] button to access the game interface description. Press the [ESC] key to return to OPTIONS screen.

The game is played using mouse only. A mouse with two buttons is required, three buttons are recommended.

Find below a summary of available commands :

LEFT MOUSE BUTTON - SIMPLE CLICK (when the inventory is not displayed) :

  • Move (when a cursor with an arrow is displayed).
  • Execute an action (when a cursor with two gears is displayed).
  • Take an object (when a cursor with a sphere inside is displayed).

RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON :

  • Cancel the current text display.
  • Enter / Leave the inventory mode.

LEFT MOUSE BUTTON - SIMPLE CLICK (when the inventory is displayed) :

  • Switch between SEE and USE modes (click the eye or the hand icon on the bottom left of the interface).
  • Navigate through objects into the inventory (yellow arrows).
  • Select one object to SEE or to USE it (click the object icon).
  • Combine two objects together (see "COMBINE TWO OBJECTS" section).
  • Split one object in two objects (see "SPLIT AN OBJECT" section).

MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON (when the inventory is displayed) :

Shortcut to switch between SEE and USE modes (same as moving the mouse cursor on the eye or the hand icon + mouse left click .. but faster).


LEFT MOUSE BUTTON - DOUBLE CLICK (when the inventory is displayed) :

When you double click on an object icon, the corresponding object is immediately selected to be used (whatever's the current inventory mode, SEE or USE) and the game automatically exits from inventory mode. It allows to quiclky select an object to use it in the game.


OBSERVE AN OBJECT IN YOUR INVENTORY :

To observe more carefully an object in your inventory :

  • Enter inventory mode if not already active (mouse left button simple click).
  • Select SEE mode (click the eye icon in bottom left of the interface until it is displayed with a green color).
  • Select the object to be observed clicking one of the object icons (you can use the yellow arrows to navigate through the objects in the inventory if needed). The selected object is then displayed on the viewing area on the center of the screen.

In viewing area, some actions can occasionally be executed on some objects (to open a box for example).


USE AN OBJECT IN YOUR INVENTORY :

During the game, the player will have to use some objects on his environment. To select and use an object in the inventory :

  • Enter inventory mode if not already active (mouse left button simple click).
  • Select USE mode (click the hand icon in bottom left of the interface until it is displayed with a orange/pink color).
  • Select the object to be used clicking one of the object icons (you can use the yellow arrows to navigate through the objects in the inventory if needed). The selected object icon is then displayed on the bottom right of the interface.
  • Leave the inventory mode (mouse right button simple click). The selected object icon is still displayed on the bottom right of the interface.

  • OR

  • Enter inventory mode if not already active (mouse left button simple click).
  • Select the object to be used double clicking one of the object icons (you can use the yellow arrows to navigate through the objects in the inventory if needed). The game automatically exits inventory mode and the selected object icon is displayed on the bottom right of the interface.

When an object is selected to be used, it will remain selected (object icon is displayed on the bottom right part of the interface) until an action is executed. When an action is available, the mouse cursor changes into gears + used object icon, to indicate the player that the object is going to be used to execute this action. If the player click the mouse left button to execute the action, the used object is automatically unselected, whatever's the action result (successfull or failed).


COMBINE TWO OBJECTS :

During the game, the player will have sometimes to combine two objects together to create a new object. The procedure to combine two objects is described below (the two objects must be present in the inventory) :

  • Enter SEE mode and select the first object to be combined (it is displayed in the viewing area).
  • Enter USE mode and select the second object to be combined (object icon is displayed on the bottom right of the interface).
  • Move the mouse cursor on the first object in the viewing area. The cursor changes into gears + used object icon. Just click the left mouse button to combine the two objects together.
Then two alternatives :

  • This is a valid object combination. The new created object is displayed in the viewing area. The two objects which have been used to create it are removed from the inventory. However, it will be possible to get them back later if needed (see "SPLIT AN OBJET" section).
  • OU
  • The object combination is not valid. The first object in viewing area remains displayed. The second object is automatically unselected.

SPLIT AN OBJECT :

Sometimes the player will have to split one object found during the game or a previously combined object to retrieve the orignal objects. The procedure to split an object is described below :

  • Enter SEE mode and select the object to be split. It is displayed in the viewing area. On bottom right of the interface, if the selected object can be split, you will see two sub-object icons separated by a vertical bar (let's call it assembly bar).
  • Click one of the two sub-object icon near the assembly bar. The combined object is then split. The sub-object whose icon has been clicked is displayed in the viewing area. The combined object is removed from the inventory, replaced by the two sub-objects which were composing it.
